Ex Captain Engine Company & Water Rescue

It is with deepest regret that the Bayport Fire Department announces the untimely passing of 28 year member, Ex Captain Garry Newman. Garry was an honorary member of the Engine Company as well as a the Water Rescue Team.  Professionally, Garry was a computer engineer and computer genius. In addition to working on the Lunar Module software for the Apollo moon lander, Garry was instrumental in implementing technology at the firehouse that was ahead of its time, including the creation of the our first website.  Fearless, he would take on any project regardless of those who said it couldn't be done.   Garry finished his career with DraftFCB Healthcare Advertising Agency in New York City.  He suffered from an on and off battle with cancer since 2001 and lost his long fight on April 20, 2007.  This website is dedicated to Garry's memory.

He is survived by his wife Marie of 27 years.

Garry is buried at Washington Memorial Cemetery in Coram.
